The Dirtiest Places In Your Home? 🦠
During our regular tidy-ups, we tend to go for the obvious places but overlook the worst offenders.😬
1. Everyday items 🔑
Remote controls, phones, earphones, keyboard, controllers, doorknobs, car keys, light switches and taps. These items are touched many times a day. It's best to wipe them daily with a disinfectant that's safe for electronics. If someone in the house has got a cold, these things should be wiped after every use to reduce the risk of spreading germs. Tips for cleaning everyday devices can be found here.
2. Dish sponges 🧽
While these sponges clean your dishes they also collect bacteria. If a sponge was used to clean up after preparing raw meat and then to wash countertops, it may cause cross-contamination and lead to food poisoning. did you know that sponges can be cleaned in the dishwasher or by soaking them in vinegar? Nevertheless, they should be replaced often. More tips here.
3. Mattress 🛏️
While regular bedding changes help keep dust mites at bay, it's also necessary to look after your mattress. It should be hoovered regularly to reduce the number of these invisible pests. If the mattress is in regular contact with liquids (due to bedwetting, incontinence, sweating, spilt drinks etc), protect it with PeapodMats. These 100% waterproof bed mats lay on top of the bedsheet protecting your bedding and mattress.
4. Pet Toys and feeding dishes 🐕
While they might look clean, they're one of the dirtiest places at home and should be washed regularly in hot and soapy water. We've found this spring cleaning list for pet owners very helpful.
5. Wet laundry 💦
6. Reusable shopping bags 🛍️
Carrying meat in a bag and using it in a few days' time to carry fruit and vegetables may lead to cross-contamination. Bags can be washed in hot water with soap. Canvas bags can be washed in the washing machine. You can find more tips to look after your bags here.
