5 products that help with bedwetting
Bedwetting can be very upsetting and frustrating for parents, too. At times, it feels like you've tried just about everything and nothing works, right? You might have been referred to a bedwetting nurse and/or bladder and bowel cleaning but if you're on the same boat as us, you probably feel like all you do is wait... Sadly, from my experience, it literally takes YEARS to get any help from the NHS... Not only the waiting list is endless (at least in my area!), but there are also many potential causes of bedwetting, including medical conditions and emotional stress, making the bedwetting even harder to resolve.
Thank goodness, there are many products on the market that might help with bedwetting, while you wait to be seen by a professional. In this article, I'll talk about five products that help with bedwetting, including waterproof bed mats, bedwetting alarms, bedwetting watches, pull-ups for younger children, and our bedwetting guide.
1. Waterproof bed mats
One of the most basic and effective products that help with bedwetting is a waterproof bed mat. These mats are designed to protect your child's bed from moisture, preventing stains and odours that can be difficult to remove from the mattress. PeapodMats are 100% waterproof and washable bed pads that stay in place on top of the bedsheet, without any straps or flaps. They're breathable, soft and don't make those awful crinkly noises as other disposable or PVC mattress protectors do. Perfect for those wriggly bottoms! PeapodMats are available in two sizes and a variety of colours and the best thing? They can be used alone or in combination with other products, such as pull-ups or bedwetting alarms.
Not only do waterproof bed mats protect the bedsheet and the mattress, but they also provide a sense of security for children who may feel embarrassed or ashamed about wetting the bed. Because they stay on top of the bedsheet, can be simply whisked away and replaced in the middle of the night, without having to change the entire bedding. We've used PeapodMats for years now and cannot tell you how much they've changed our lives!
2. Bedwetting alarm
A bedwetting alarm is another product that can help with bedwetting. These alarms are designed to sound an alert when your child begins to wet the bed, waking them up and encouraging them to use the bathroom. Over time, the alarm can help your child learn to recognize the signs of a full bladder and wake up on their own accord to use the bathroom. Bedwetting alarms are available in a variety of styles, including wearable alarms that attach to your child's clothing and pad-and-bell alarms that go under the sheet. The choices are endless (and so are the pricing options!). Did you know that once you're seen by a bedwetting nurse, you can also request a bedwetting alarm on your visit?
3. Bedwetting watch
A bedwetting watch is a newer product that has been gaining popularity in recent years. It's a much quieter solution to a bedwetting alarm, which can help especially if your child is sharing the bedroom with their sibling. In the case of TabTime vibrating alarm reminder watch, you can use it for multiple purposes as you can set up to 10 alarms during the day. With bedwetting troubles, you can set such alarms throughout the night, reminding your child to use the bathroom. The watch will then vibrate on their wrist - this could be excellent for heavy sleepers!
4. Pull-ups for younger children
For younger children who are struggling with bedwetting, pull-ups can be a helpful solution. Pull-ups are designed to look and feel like regular underwear, but with the added protection of absorbent materials that can handle nighttime accidents. Pull-ups are available in a variety of sizes and styles and can be a helpful tool if you're trying to manage bedwetting while your child learns to control their bladder. Keep in mind that this solution is not advised for older children, as they might feel embarrassed about wearing a pull-up and might regress further into bedwetting.
